Day Groups

  • First Friday Faith & Friends - Explore our Catholic faith with Dr. Ruth Queen Smith. This year, Dr. Ruth Queen Smith, Pastoral Associate at John XXIII Parish at the University of Tennessee, will be teaching a series based on “Catholic and Christian.” A simple lunch is provided following the study (small donation requested).
  • Friends & Crafts - Knit, sew and crochet baby bonnets, chemo hats afghans and more. Creative ladies use their skills to enhance the lives of others through this group. If you knit, sew or crochet, your talent is needed for baby bonnets, chemo hats, afghans and more. We always need new ideas for the parish Harvest of Blessing fundraiser. You can work on projects at home if you cannot attend meetings.
  • Garden Guild - Garden, field trips, speakers, and help maintain the church grounds. Share your interests in all aspects of gardening, field trips and speakers with other women. Help maintain our church grounds as your service project.
  • Madonna Circle - Moms host brunch and enjoy fellowship together. While the kids are in school on first Thursday mornings, moms meet to take turns hosting brunch and enjoying fellowship together.
  • Martha & Mary Circles - This year we are journeying through Catholic history with Steve Weidenkopf and Dr. Alan Schreck’s EPIC, a DVD series that presents easy to learn 12 color coded time periods of Church history (identifying over 100 key events), world politics, culture, as well as the Popes, saints, Councils and Doctors of the Church. Learn our story of reform, adventure, intrigue and devotion from a truly Catholic perspective.
  • Moms & Tots Playgroups - Gather with your child and other mothers of preschool children for lots of fun and support. Outings and Mom’s Night Out are planned monthly.
  • Mother Cabrini Guild - Discuss books and/or movies in light of current events. We gather to discuss, dialogue and enjoy fellowship with women who enjoy casual conversation about varying topics, including the current book we are reading, The Gift of Years, Growing Older Gracefully by Sister Joan Chittister and rereading one of our favorites, Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. For the last few years, we have found that reading from the book aloud during the meeting helps everyone keep up, without added expense of purchasing each book and expect everyone to be on the same page. We take our time, never rushing to select the next book or finish the one we happen to be reading. New members are always welcome as we love getting to know new people.
  • Scripture for Catholics - Diocesan-wide bible study by Dr. Ruth Queen Smith. This Diocesan-wide bible study is taught by Dr. Ruth Queen Smith, Pastoral Associate at John XXIII Parish at the University of Tennessee. We discuss the upcoming Sunday readings and other scripture. There is no homework but bring your bibles.
  • St. Gabriel Guild - Moms pray, support each other and create “care packages”. This group is for mothers of young adults - college age and older. We are using the book “Praying for Your Adult Children.” At our meetings, you have the option to share “treats” and prepare care packages to mail to your child. You never outgrow being a mother and needing the support of friends.
  • St. Monica Guild - Scripture study-video/workbook series-“Jesus, the One and Only” by Beth Moore. We ladies meet to dig deeper into scripture through a video/book series by noted speaker, Beth Moore. Join us for fun and learning more about the Bible.
  • The Light Weigh - 12 week Scripture study regarding weight loss (fee based). If you struggle with your relationship with food, let Scripture and the support of other women help you during this 12-week spiritual growth weight loss program. Although it is preferable to start at a new 12-week series, you may join at anytime. Come and learn to achieve peace with food!

Evening and Weekend Groups

  • Altar Linen Society - Linen preparation used in parish Eucharistic celebrations on a rotating schedule. This is a service opportunity to help keep our supply of alter cloths and purificators ready for any mass. You can pick up the linens any time during your assigned time, launder, iron and return them at any time. You will be instructed as to proper care. We meet for dinner with our clergy once a year for fellowship.

This ladies only group meets to share and discuss the chapters as well as to pray and support each other.

  • Lenten Retreat - Annual women’s Lenten retreat. We will gather for a Lenten retreat led by Dr. Ruth Queen Smith, Pastoral Associate at John XXIII Parish at the University of Tennessee.
