The Social Action Committee is dedicated to providing support, aid and encouragement to members within our parish community and those outside All Saints. The committee serves the parish by supporting new members, assisting members in times of need and informing members of current social issues of importance.
In addition, the committee serves the community by coordinating service schedules for parish-sponsored activities.
For information about volunteering to be part of the Social Action committee or one of the sponsored projects, please contact the parish office.
Each year in November, the Social Action committee organizes the parish’s Giving Tree. Gift tags are distributed after Mass or placed on the decorated tree for selection by parishioners. Gifts are purchased and donated for distribution to charitable agencies. There were just 100 tags on that first tree. In 2005, there were over 1000. Agencies who receive the gifts are reviewed and selected by members of the Social Action committee.
This drive begins after Ash Wednesday and ends on Palm Sunday every year and benefits the Ladies of Charity and Pathways food pantries.
This sale is part of the annual Harvest of Blessings, held at All Saints in November. Members of the Crazy Quilters put their wares on sale to benefit low-income people from the Jellico area who make the crafts.
All Saints parishioners donate school supplies to support children living at Columbus Home, Noah’s Ark Foster Care and Pathways.
The first Sunday of every month, various groups from the parish (Youth groups, Men’s Club, Choir, etc.) or individual parishioners sign up to prepare and serve food to the homeless men and women of Knoxville at the Volunteer Ministries Center in downtown Knoxville.
This Justice Forum meets regularly at All Saints and works closely with the Diocese Office of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC). Members support an annual Justice Day event in the diocese.
Additional projects include: Shower for Shelters, refugee family support, notification of diocesan service projects and service-related seminars, communication of legislative information, Catholic Day on the Hill, cash donations directed to rural Tennessee missions and emergency requests and much more.
